Uses:
Kumarahou has long been recognised for its medicinal properties, and has been used by rural folk for generations. It occurs naturally in the North Island and its flowers produce a soapy detergent when rubbed together. Collecting for this rare and elusive herb syrup takes place in the Northland Kumarahou groves. This alkaline, ‘soapy’ herb is used as a blood purifier. The natural saponins occurring within Kumarahou also help dissolve plaque and fatty deposits.
